Days 4 & 5 - Lill Street (continued)

Time for Art

The groups of students who were not throwing and molding terra cotta were creating clocks with brass and copper in a day-long metalsmithing workshop.  First, the students learned about safety and how to use the tools that would be needed.  Then, they sketched out their own original designs to create their timely works of art.  In the design process, students considered positive and negative space, textures, contrasts, patinas, and forms.  To bring their visions to life, students cut the metal and added detail with rivets, hammers, interior cuts, and finishes.
